Welcome back to another amazing an informative episode of the MUstaSH ROOM you're about to enter the MUstaSH ROOM.

00:00:17

I'm your host, David Ben.

00:00:19

On today's episode, my good friend Chris Re joins the podcast.

00:00:22

We talk about mixed martial arts and how there there is some interest, some movement in the way of psychedelics for performance enhanced.

00:00:29

In some other areas that could benefit fighters, I'm a big fan of mixed martial arts, a practice jiu jitsu, but by no means my a full fledged mixed martial artist.

00:00:38

However, it's an awesome sport and I love those guys so you'll learn about that.

00:00:42

Wife.

00:00:42

Jill stops back by to teach us about a new mushroom.

00:00:45

You also learn about the most identifiable mushroom out there, the one that influence Santa Claus in Mario Brothers and some other cool stuff.

00:00:52

I'm sure you're familiar with so here.

00:00:54

Again, this is the second return guest we had Patrick twice and now we have Chris returning to the MUstaSH ROOM.

00:01:00

Welcome back, thank you.

00:01:02

It's great to be back.

00:01:04

I agree I concur.

00:01:06

Chris.

00:01:06

First and foremost, it's good to have you here.

00:01:09

It's good to have you in person but I wanna make sure that I don't forget to address.

00:01:13

You had some questions about the mono tubs that are sitting close to the MUstaSH ROOM and I want to make sure that I addressed your.

00:01:18

Questions about the monotypes?

00:01:19

Well, let's complete start.

00:01:21

So with the ALBINO strain that you have, you mentioned that.

00:01:25

Alpha

00:01:27

Reducing the light exposure kind of helped.

00:01:30

Talk to me a little bit about that and kind of what you.

00:01:32

Changed yeah, good question.

00:01:34

So in the previous episode I can't remember which one we talked about.

00:01:37

Albino ***** envy the strain and actually I have some information that I got recently as to why that might be the best strain to play with, but it's hard to cultivate.

00:01:48

In terms of its potency, it's it's really sought after and provide some good effects, but it's kind of hard to get it.

00:01:55

To work the way the other strains do, So what I had was, I did just a normal mono tub with a good ratio of spawn and casing and it just took forever to fruit.

00:02:06

It took forever for any mushrooms to start coming out.

00:02:09

I got little pins, but they never evolved into anything and they kind of turned green.

00:02:14

They oxidized almost immediately.

00:02:16

I got a few, a handful.

00:02:18

It actually made it to decent side decent sized mushrooms.

00:02:21

They look like penises, right?

00:02:23

Phallic structure, but I notice that they just weren't really doing much, so I figured albino albinos don't like the light.

00:02:24

Yes.

00:02:30

Ostensibly, I've never met.

00:02:32

I had an albino Cockatiel Cockatiel.

00:02:34

No.

00:02:35

I said cacti a Cockatiel as a child.

00:02:38

****** pet shity bird.

00:02:40

I'm sure not all albino cockatiels are like that, but he was useless.

00:02:44

That's my only exposure to an albino.

00:02:46

Not right?

00:02:47

So what I did is I turned off the light.

00:02:49

I decided to let them call in the dark a little bit.

00:02:51

Maybe they are.

00:02:53

Scared of the light and I've gotten a little bit more growth.

00:02:57

Adam, so it's an ongoing experiment.

00:02:58

I don't know at this point whether that was just kind of like some happenstance or whether I influence that, but that's what I've noticed so far.

00:03:01

Sure.

00:03:05

When you're cultivating, I've noticed that I had a.

00:03:07

I've noticed that had a period where every new piece after two days or so, every new I guess actually mushroom after two days or so would turn green.

00:03:19

First of all, talking to Mike just a little bit more.

00:03:21

Direct will do there.

00:03:24

Yeah, so basically when the mushroom is.

00:03:29

Don't worry bout the green, it's it's.

00:03:31

It's oxidizing so it's like a blueish green right?

00:03:32

Sure.

00:03:34

It.

00:03:34

Is it like a temperature thing, a humidity thing or it just happens?

00:03:37

No, once the mushroom is done growing like once you break it away from the mycelium, it's going to start oxidizing.

00:03:44

Gotcha, OK, it just means it's done growing or it's detached from the active mycelium.

00:03:44

Pretty quickly so.

00:03:49

OK.

00:03:49

And like I said, a lot of like I was telling you earlier.

00:03:52

A lot of the pins that I had with albino ***** envy they would just turn green almost instantly.

00:03:57

Right had some of that.

00:03:57

So they just stop growing, they they kinda.

00:04:00

They're just failed pins.

00:04:01

Just never, never amounted to much.

00:04:03

OK.

00:04:04

You know, like had maybe some potential as a kid, but they just got swept up in some ******** and just never amounted to anything.

00:04:10

Yeah, those ******* penises.

00:04:11

Sounds familiar, so yeah, I'll have to report back as to ultimately where I stand, but if you look at the tell me the date on the side of that albino ***** envy monotone.

00:04:24

October 26th

00:04:25

October 26 so. October 26th we're recording this January 14th of 2021. So on October 26 of 2020, that's when I put in the spawn with the casing and started the process in the mono tub. For those of you that don't know, the Mono tab is the the incubator for the fruiting for the growing of the actual mushroom.

00:04:27

Oh jeez.

00:04:48

So it's been what almost three months, and I've gotten maybe a little bit here and there, but not like one true harvest out of it, right?

00:04:51

Yeah.

00:04:57

So it's very temperamental I have.

00:04:59

I'm trying some like I showed you earlier.

00:05:02

I'm trying to to put the casing in the spawn in an actual grow bag and have the fruiting done in the grow bag.

00:05:06

Right?

00:05:07

Uh huh.

00:05:08

We'll see if that produces better results, but.

00:05:10

It's supposedly according to people online.

00:05:12

It's one of the more difficult strains to cultivate all.

00:05:15

Oh

00:05:15

Right and more potent.

00:05:17

And more potent will according to this article that I found.

00:05:20

Thank you Google.

00:05:21

I found this article and it talks about what are the differences among magic mushroom strains and their trips.

00:05:27

And it talks about towards the end.

00:05:31

Hold on peenis me there we go.

00:05:33

It says here that ***** envy has an interesting history.

00:05:38

It's theorized the strain was isolated from Amazonian P cubensis.

00:05:42

Another popular strain, the PS Amazonian, that I was growing.

00:05:47

But Papa.

00:05:50

There are many strains albino ***** envy, uncut ***** envy. All the variations have characteristics which are clearly distinct from other cubensis strains. Other psilocybin mushrooms consisting of substantially higher potency, 30 to 50%.

00:06:06

Wow, so I didn't know this that mystical experience that rebirth that I had that was four and a half grams of ***** envy.

00:06:11

Right?

00:06:13

Whoo.

00:06:13

So if it's 30 to 50% more potent, I went on a journey man, yeah, so it's harder to cultivate, but maybe the juice is worth the squeeze.

00:06:23

Yeah.

00:06:24

I thought that was really cool.

00:06:26

It says extremely thick, dense stems, pale underdeveloped caps, making them somewhat resemblant of the organ for which they were named.

00:06:30

Wow.

00:06:33

AKA the *****

00:06:36

So yeah, rock on, I'm going to continue harvesting ***** envy, and I'll do my own experimentation.

00:06:42

That sounds great.

00:06:43

Why do you only have one of?

00:06:43

Them going right now because a lot of the jars never amounted to anything, right?

00:06:48

So I've had experience.

00:06:50

Bad experiences with ***** envy at every phase of cultivation.

00:06:55

Oh man, OK.

00:06:56

Once I get the recipe down and I've seen people online, they use hydrogen peroxide and weird things in their casing mixture.

00:07:01

Oh

00:07:01

Wow.

00:07:02

I don't know if I'm going to head down that path, but once I do figure out what makes it work, I'll actually write it down.

00:07:07

And we'll, we'll share with.

00:07:08

The listening audience. Have you?

00:07:11

Tried coffee yet and any of these.

00:07:13

Near these OK.

00:07:13

Good question.

00:07:14

Yes, I did start introducing coffee into both my casing and I was already putting it in the spawn, but I started putting about a Cup of ground coffee in the casing so when you introduce the boiling water for pasteurization it just kind of, you know, melt it all in and makes it hopefully more rich with nitrogen.

00:07:20

OK.

00:07:33

Gotcha.

00:07:33

That's that's the goal is to introduce some nitrogen like manure would.

00:07:37

Right?

00:07:37

But I'm not using a newer function or right?

00:07:40

I don't know.

00:07:41

That stuff he produced with the goat ****

00:07:43

Oh, the gauche it what I can't remember the name of that Instagram handle.

00:07:48

But dear God, the coaches fist up.

00:07:50

Like a fish.

00:07:51

I don't know if I'm ready like I don't then I have to go buy a goat and I have to like nurture iagod it becomes a really cumbersome process at that point.

00:08:00

So I'm hoping that I can recreate the goat **** experience minus negotiate.

00:08:04

Do people ever utilized compost?

00:08:08

Good question.

00:08:08

Yes, and that's one of the things like with mushrooms.

00:08:11

Like with mushrooms.

00:08:13

There's so many opportunities to kind of deal with waste with fungus with funky, and people are absolutely growing mushrooms and compost.

00:08:22

I'm not there yet, like I don't really want to.

00:08:25

I don't like it in my hands too dirty.

00:08:26

I don't know if I want to be in and out of compost all day, but if you were living in a full, fully self sustained like.

00:08:29

There.

00:08:34

You know, use everything kind of environment.

00:08:36

It makes total sense to grow your mushrooms out of compost.

00:08:39

I just don't know the right ratio of of nutrients and stuff, but hell yeah.

00:08:43

Yeah, right?

00:08:44

Now I I would I would love to hear some feedback from you if you wanna take that on, but I'm not there.

00:08:49

Yeah.

00:08:50

All right?

00:08:52

I'll, I'll take it, I'll take that into consideration, maybe.

00:08:53

Well.

00:08:54

Not we get a little.

00:08:55

Extra time, so let's actually talk about the monitor.

00:08:59

I don't think we've gone through the mono tub construct with the listening audience, which again I hope is vast.

00:09:05

Don't know, can't verify, I hope it's fast.

00:09:07

I probably could verify, but I'm a little scared to look at the number.

00:09:11

So a mono tub is essentially your fruiting environment where your mushrooms are going to ultimately.

00:09:16

So any real sizable tupperwares container will do.

00:09:22

I can't remember the exact size of these.

00:09:24

Do you remember the size when you bought your still air box?

00:09:28

I think there was bigger than the 34 liter, but.

00:09:30

OK, well anyways, this is a it's a medium sized Rubbermaid container.

00:09:36

It doesn't have to have a clear lid if you're going to make it fully self contained.

00:09:41

If you're going to have it in a room where your lighting source is indirect, then you want to have a clear lid so it gets more exposure to light.

00:09:48

OK, but in this environment because I actually adhered the lights to the underside of the lid, I don't need to.

00:09:54

Have a clear lid question, yeah?

00:09:55

Quick.

00:09:57

Unlike plants, they don't actually utilize the light for growth or anything like that, but.

00:10:04

So, so why would indirect light be less advantageous or less light be less advantageous?

00:10:10

Well.

00:10:10

Supposedly, according to you know my research you need 10 to 12 hours of light for the mushrooms.

00:10:14

Uh huh.

00:10:15

It doesn't have to be direct light, it can be indirect, but it needs to be present.

00:10:19

Sure.

00:10:19

So it depends on what lighting source you have.

00:10:22

For me I quit my mono tabs with an independent light source.

00:10:26

OK.

00:10:26

But if I had all my tubs in like a room that had.

00:10:28

Had its own light source that could be plentiful enough for all the tubs.

00:10:33

Sure.

00:10:33

Then I could just have clear lids and it would suffice that way.

00:10:36

Gotcha, OK?

00:10:37

So it really just depends on your setup.

00:10:38

Makes sense, but if you do want to fully self contained mono tub the way I did it is you cut two.

00:10:47

I'd say inch diameter holes.

00:10:49

On either side of the mono tub for ventilation, and you put polyfill, polyfill is the inside of a stuffed teddy bear.

00:10:58

Is that that stuffing **** And it's super cheap on line?

00:11:02

Was it like 11 bucks for bag or something?

00:11:04

Something like that.

00:11:04

Yeah, so you basically create these these air exchange.

00:11:08

Change holes on the side of your mono tub an your carbon dioxide will exchange through those holes so you can see here the ones I have.

00:11:17

I have two holes on either side.

00:11:18

I have some duct tape around those holes to kind of grip the Poly film, yeah?

00:11:21

Keep that polyfill.

00:11:23

And every time you reuse amanatullah, I like to replace.

00:11:28

The polyfill gets kind of dirty.

00:11:30

I also have the lights used zip tie to adhere the lights to the underside.

00:11:35

Some LED lights to the underside of the lid.

00:11:39

Uh.

00:11:39

I have a CPU fan that has a USB.

00:11:43

Connection that I fixed to the side to offer fresh air intake and then I have a humidifier that I use with a tube to introduce distilled water.

00:11:54

So you can find them online if you look online you can see what the mono tub construct all the breakdown of all the steps and everything.

00:12:01

But really what you want is an environment that is going to be moisture rich, very humid as humid as you can make it.

00:12:08

And has light and the ability to exchange both oxygen and carbon dioxide well.

00:12:13

Since you brought up humidity, yeah.

00:12:15

Uh.

00:12:16

What kind of timeline do you use for the humidifier?

00:12:20

I love that question, so I've been working on perfecting that.

00:12:22

What I've been doing is every couple hours I think it's every two to three hours.

00:12:23

All right?

00:12:30

I'll turn on my humidifiers for the mono tubs for a minute to introduce a solid stream of humidity.

00:12:36

Of tea.

00:12:38

Humid humidity, moisture, mist, mist will go with missed one, so it offers a constant stream of mist to keep the chamber moist, and then I'll turn a fan on to kind of blow that around and disperse it throughout the tub.

00:12:41

Yeah, there you go.

00:12:53

So really what I'm trying to do is just get as much of that mist in the air and is dispersed as possible.

00:12:58

Just to keep it to simulate what you might find in like a swampy area, you know a real human part of Florida.

00:13:05

Something about you.

00:13:05

Something like that.

00:13:06

So it's been something I've had to tinker with, but I will put some some numbers down once I get around to putting a website together.

00:13:13

Right now it's kind of in the old now.

00:13:15

Yeah.

00:13:17

Makes sense, yeah?

00:13:18

So yeah, mono tablets.

00:13:20

You can also fruit inside the grow bag which we were talking about earlier Chris.

00:13:23

Sure.

00:13:24

It's another option I don't have as much experience there, but I'm hoping to do some test cases and or reports and findings back.

00:13:31

Maybe it offers better yields.

00:13:33

I'm not really sure yet.

00:13:35

So Chris, let's talk about you.

00:13:36

We we had some we had some mishaps with some spawn bags an I feel partially responsible.

00:13:41

Yes no.

00:13:43

Let's tell listening audience what happened well.

00:13:45

Well.

00:13:46

We were trying to make some spawn bags.

00:13:50

You bought the bags online, right?

00:13:51

But the bags online were suppose, I think, Amazon AM.

00:13:53

Goodbye, my unofficial sponsor.

00:13:56

Done.

00:13:57

Alright, Amazon sells grow bags.

00:13:59

Yeah or?

00:14:00

Spawn spawn back yeah yeah.

00:14:02

So we tried to inoculate them with the spores, but we didn't use a still air box for.

00:14:12

Some reason we got cocky we did.

00:14:15

We did.

00:14:15

We flew too close to the Sun Icarus.

00:14:19

Got ******* cocky so yes, I and I feel partially responsible everything you do and we talked to Andrew in the last episode.

00:14:27

Everything you do you have to be meticulous with the decontamination and sterilization.

00:14:32

So I dropped the ball because I really should have led the effort to use a still air box to.

00:14:37

I didn't have the flow hood yet.

00:14:39

But I should have definitely mandated.

00:14:39

Man, that's lovely.

00:14:42

The floor is beautiful.

00:14:43

It is so we should have used the still air box for every.

00:14:45

Sure, every phase of that inoculation, and we didn't shoot down with mold and he just didn't really accomplish our goal in any way.

00:14:50

Sure.

00:14:51

Right?

00:14:54

Yep, had one bag make it out of the six that I had and how many did you?

00:14:59

Oh man, I had a bunch that were contaminated.

00:15:01

Almost all of them.

00:15:03

Bottom line is we wasted some spawn.

00:15:06

Yeah.

00:15:06

Yeah I wasted some liquid culture which I'm not super worried about, but what we need to do next time we go through the process is I need to figure out the right way to introduce liquid culture.

00:15:17

Obviously inside this still air box, but something we did I don't know that it's just the atmosphere, something we did with the inoculating.

00:15:20

Me.

00:15:27

With liquid culture was and up to snuff.

00:15:30

OK.

00:15:30

So I need to go through the process and just make sure that you know if I was missing something that I correct it and just have a consistent, repeatable process.

00:15:37

Sure, right now it's a little.

00:15:39

Kind of a little loose.

00:15:41

Right all these processes started that way, yeah?

00:15:41

Yeah.

00:15:45

Amateur mycology, you know.

00:15:46

Yeah.

00:15:47

So so sorry bout that Chris.

00:15:49

Next time we're going to we're going to make a much more concerted effort to get good workable mushrooms out, right?

00:15:55

Absolutely.

00:15:56

Oh yeah, sounds like a good time to interrupt and provide you with the health segment from wifey, Jill.

00:16:02

Here we go.

00:16:03

Hi hi.

00:16:05

What do you have for us?

00:16:06

Today

00:16:07

We are going to discuss Cordyceps.

00:16:10

Gorgeous apps

00:16:12

Called the Subs.

00:16:14

Spelled CORDYCE

00:16:17

PS Matheo need to spell that but.

00:16:19

Yeah, like Cordy yeah the why is a is a little light you have to annunciate the why Cordyceps.

00:16:26

For shizzle ING?

00:16:28

And so this one is a type of medicinal mushroom with a ton of antioxidant and anti inflammatory benefits. It is a long used in traditional Chinese medison and there are more than 400 species.

00:16:44

Eces of quarter steps mostly which are native to the Asian areas, China, Korea, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam in Bhutan.

00:16:54

Interesting yeah.

00:16:56

So these are long finger like bodies so they they almost look like.

00:17:03

Like cheetah

00:17:04

Right?

00:17:04

Like Cheetos, but like what are the things in the bottom at the bottom of the ocean?

00:17:10

Oh, like anemones.

00:17:12

Anemones yeah, they kind of look like that.

00:17:13

Or

00:17:15

Yeah, like sea coral phloi kind of stuff.

00:17:18

Yeah, like skinnier than your fingers worm, like if you will yeah like like they have pins if you will.

00:17:27

Yeah, it's when I first saw it.

00:17:29

It looks exactly like a very thin cheeto.

00:17:33

Like

00:17:33

Yeah, they have the color.

00:17:34

The color of the Cheeto it's that bright orange flamy WAVY.

00:17:36

Yeah, it's like a flamy.

00:17:41

Yeah yeah.

00:17:42

Very skinny Cheetos or like sperm that are stuck.

00:17:46

And not what's on your mind now.

00:17:47

I mean, it looks like sperm.

00:17:49

All right, I'll take it, by the way we are at 20 weeks.

00:17:52

Or 20 weeks.

00:17:54

Mary, I'm here.

00:17:54

When it's grown, we're halfway there.

00:17:56

Awesome babies healthy, so that's why I am smiling.

00:17:56

Oh yeah.

00:18:00

Been smiling for awhile now.

00:18:01

Yeah, you're so excited.

00:18:03

So we're both excited, but you're you're just beaming.

00:18:04

Ah.

00:18:06

I am going to be a girl dad to the ******* 40th Power 43rd power.

00:18:09

As they grow that.

00:18:12

So yes, it looks like a cheeto it you can actually buy the I'm speaking really loud.

00:18:17

You can actually buy the spores, not spores, but you can buy liquid culture of Cordyceps if you want to do homegrown recipes.

00:18:27

So there's a place online if you just search on Amazon.

00:18:30

You can actually buy the Cordyceps.

00:18:32

Liquid culture syringes.

00:18:34

For your own inoculation, homegrown, and I think the recipe they use is like a rice based recipe so I can add some links down the road, but look up like Cordyceps home cultivation and they'll give you the recipe.

00:18:36

Night.

00:18:46

And like how to proceed with it and back to you.

00:18:47

Place in it and it's something you haven't started home growing quite yet.

00:18:52

No, I mean there's a whole separate strategy in terms of like the container you use with pasteurization, and it uses silicone bags and some other stuff.

00:19:02

So I've been so consumed with like the various strains that I've been playing with, I haven't had a chance to give it its due.

00:19:07

Diligence I will go and report back.

00:19:08

OK.

00:19:09

Yeah, I know this is 1 you've been talking about for quite some time.

00:19:12

So I'm eager to get that one going.

00:19:15

Hell yeah.

00:19:16

So fun fact. Wild Quartus apps in China for a kilogram often caused an excess of $20,000.

00:19:26

Holy.

00:19:27

So this is highly touted.

00:19:30

It is, you know, soft, soft out for and most of the supplements today are made from an engineered fungal culture that has the same biological characteristics of the mushroom so.

00:19:44

Wait so 20 grand for a kilo.

00:19:48

For a kilogram.

00:19:49

Yeah, so that's I don't know what the what the going rate for heroin is.

00:19:54

I haven't done heroin ever.

00:19:55

Yeah, this probably has to be way more than that.

00:19:57

Yeah, right like I mean.

00:19:57

Well, heroin is cheap, right?

00:19:59

Like I don't know.

00:19:59

I don't know.

00:20:00

From the shows we watch, it's like you can get it for 20 bucks like a hit or something.

00:20:02

For 20 bucks.

00:20:05

Yeah, well, we don't know that we clearly don't have a jargon like if we showed up people feel like cops.

00:20:08

Yeah, just some of this from like the law and order and Chicago PD and all of that song.

00:20:14

I know I've always thought it was fascinating.

00:20:16

The people that had like the heroin kits, though you know, like the, it's like a tiny little doctor pouch that has like the syringes and a little bicycle tube.

00:20:21

Oh

00:20:24

And a lot of tears.

00:20:24

A lighter little lighter.

00:20:25

Lot of tears.

00:20:26

Yeah, spoon like there's three and three spoons in the China Cabinet instead of four.

00:20:30

Oh, and then the the thing you have to tie on your arm so you can get your veins to pub.

00:20:33

Right?

00:20:35

That is just.

00:20:36

I mean, I use some paraphernalia when I a dabble with my my homegrown stuff.

00:20:40

But dear God, I can't imagine having that level of paraphernalia to try to get some sort of high.

00:20:46

It just seems super cumbersome.

00:20:47

Well, I mean, let's be honest, people have bongs that are like 4 feet tall.

00:20:50

Oh

00:20:51

Touché touché

00:20:52

So it's just be maybe extreme.

00:20:55

The extremity of it.

00:20:56

I mean, I do take offense to you putting marijuana and heroin in the same category, but.

00:21:01

I'm just saying when you're saying size.

00:21:04

Size does kinda matter.

00:21:05

Like

00:21:06

Well, I mean, there's like water bongs and giant huge bomb.

00:21:10

I mean there's just yeah.

00:21:12

Yeah no doubt.

00:21:12

Yeah.

00:21:13

Alright, so we got off on a tangent but 20 grand for a key.

00:21:13

I think it's completely different.

00:21:17

So if you have it you're in possession of some premium, hopefully uncut schitzo run with that.

00:21:17

To MoneyGram.

00:21:22

Yeah, so those are again wild quarter steps in China.

00:21:26

Can fetch, you know in excess of 20 K for OK and so yeah so health benefits getting back there.

00:21:34

So Cordyceps is often touted as a natural energy booster.

00:21:39

It can protect against health problems such as asthma, depression, diabetes, fatigue.

00:21:46

Upper respiratory tract infections fight against high cholesterol, so there are a lot of benefits surrounding it from a health perspective, I will say if you are diabetic or if you're taking any type of blood thinners, be advised when.

00:21:55

Yeah.

00:21:55

Yeah.

00:22:04

Adding quadriceps to your regimen because it can plummet your blood pressure.

00:22:10

Your blood levels, your blood sugar levels.

00:22:14

So just be aware that you want to talk to your doctor first before I'm just adding that in.

00:22:19

Good point and just another thing.

00:22:21

When it's consumed, it's not usually consumed in it's.

00:22:25

Original form, right?

00:22:25

It's usually ground into some sort of powder, like like reishi or some of the other medicinal mushrooms we talked about.

00:22:31

Correct, yeah?

00:22:32

So I would say that the supplements that at least we've seen have been more in a in a pill form, and that's kind of where we go back to them.

00:22:37

Yeah.

00:22:40

Being more genetically manufactured because you can't biologically reproduce these without having the original quarter steps used.

00:22:51

Gotcha.

00:22:52

But I mean like your home grown kids, you know you can still grow them at home and then look up safe ways of cooking and ingesting them.

00:23:00

Way.

00:23:00

Interesting.

00:23:02

Yeah.

00:23:02

By the way, that's an appearance from MC.

00:23:04

We hope that never happens, but sometimes most of the time it does back to you.

00:23:04

Yeah, it's weird.

00:23:08

Yeah, since something also interesting quarter steps was popularized, you know for athletic performance in the early 90s, a few Chinese track and field athletes actually shattered multiple world records and their coach attributed.

00:23:23

And then.

00:23:26

To the quarter step supplements that it helps increase athletic performance.

00:23:30

You know what if if Lance Armstrong would have gone Far East for his medison?

00:23:35

Oh, he might have gotten away with it.

00:23:37

Yeah, to test test Lance.

00:23:37

'cause what did he thinking that this is like?

00:23:40

Blood doping or something?

00:23:41

Yeah, he was using.

00:23:44

He was doping with blood that had a different oxygen level.

00:23:48

I believe I'm not a bicyclist or a bicycling enthusiast.

00:23:49

Yeah.

00:23:51

But actually still isn't like drugs.

00:23:54

I don't know it seems.

00:23:54

Yeah, but in that in that sport, apparently that's the drug, so it's relative to that sport, which most people could.

00:23:58

Yeah.

00:24:00

Care less about.

00:24:01

Yeah, so a study in 2016 by the University of North Carolina. They showed that daily court iceps implementation gradually increased your maximum oxygen intake and young adults after three weeks. So when we're talking about the health benefits, distance runners over distance athletes in general.

00:24:23

Can you know cycle the oxygen faster throughout their body and then you know maintain the stamina a lot longer than than those who hadn't.

00:24:31

Nice.

00:24:32

Yeah.

00:24:33

Yeah, so let's see some additional ones.

00:24:35

So some herbalists also believe that court iceps can help boost libido, protect against cancer and slow down the aging process.

00:24:45

And all that in a simple mushroom.

00:24:48

Just another mushroom.

00:24:49

Just packed full of benefits.

00:24:51

Impulstanz I don't know if you read about where Paul Stamets engineered a way to fight insects in the garden using Cordyceps.

00:25:00

Oh those quarter steps.

00:25:00

Yeah yeah, he found a way.

00:25:02

They can actually grow inside of insects.

00:25:05

That can be a fruiting body I guess for the spores.

00:25:11

So what would happen?

00:25:12

Interesting.

00:25:12

And I'm paraphrasing here, so if I'm incorrect I apologize, but basically they trick the certain insects too.

00:25:21

Taking the spores consuming the spores, bringing them back into their colonies, and proliferating the mushrooms actually within themselves and in their their environment so they were able to kind of.

00:25:31

Keep them away and kind of show them that they could be harmful to their their community.

00:25:36

Wow.

00:25:37

Yeah, so there's more to read, obviously, and that was a really lousy job paraphrasing.

00:25:41

But it's a fascinating story and there's a number of patents I believe associated with the work from the great mycologist, Paul Stamets.

00:25:48

Yeah, he's awesome yeah so I also found so quarter steps are generally recd in pill form.

00:25:58

There they can be used.

00:26:00

You can also get them in dried form where you can make tinctures and extracts.

00:26:05

It was the 1st.

00:26:06

He said.

00:26:07

What do you mean?

00:26:08

Tinctures I've never heard of that.

00:26:09

Pictures looks like a.

00:26:12

How do you say there are like in these little vials with droppers an it's almost like an extract that is infused with?

00:26:16

Oh

00:26:21

I mean, I guess I don't know the difference exactly between an extract and a tincture.

00:26:25

How do you?

00:26:26

How do you spell that?

00:26:26

'cause I've never.

00:26:27

I'm not reading the the right literature, apparently.

00:26:27

Yeah, it's a.

00:26:29

It's like puncture but with a T in front.

00:26:32

Fantastic sure, alright so the next time you take some CBD from an eyedropper, it's a tincture.

00:26:32

Tincture puncture yeah.

00:26:39

Well, again, I don't know the rules between extracts and tinctures, so we did, yeah, but it.

00:26:41

Oh

00:26:42

OK alright, so don't hold me to it.

00:26:45

I mean just visually.

00:26:46

That's kind of what it is.

00:26:48

It's something you can add as a dropper and at a certain dosage, but yeah, so you can buy dry hold Cordyceps you can buy them in supplement forms.

00:26:53

OK.

00:26:59

You can also drive by them in powder form.

00:27:02

You can add them to smoothies or protein shakes.

00:27:04

You can brew them in T.

00:27:04

Yeah.

00:27:06

They come in a lot of the Folgers coffee they're starting to produce them.

00:27:09

They are part of those.

00:27:10

Yeah, a lot of the mushroom teas has quarter steps as part of their mushroom blend.

00:27:14

Yeah, there's a place.

00:27:15

Remember that place in Santa Fe was it?

00:27:18

Oh, the apothecary.

00:27:19

The apothecary, oh they had that amazing mushroom coffee tea thing.

00:27:23

We have what did they call theirs?

00:27:26

God, it was great.

00:27:26

It was like a whole array of drink.

00:27:30

That had all of these health benefits.

00:27:33

Yes, Santa Fe.

00:27:33

They were called something.

00:27:35

Just for anybody listening that hasn't traveled to Santa Fe, that's in, you know, the the Western Denver, Co area or similar.

00:27:43

It's awesome man.

00:27:44

There's a lot of great, great artwork out there.

00:27:47

The people are really cool and there was an apothecary restaurant kind of boutique place that specialized in a lot of herbs.

00:27:54

And what do they call them?

00:27:57

There was a some sort of natural booster.

00:28:00

Some term they used, but it was.

00:28:02

It was pretty awesome.

00:28:03

Oh the optogenetic or apdo.

00:28:06

Genic Apple Genic trains, like lattes, tonics, elixirs.

00:28:08

Yeah.

00:28:13

Yeah.

00:28:14

The elixirs is where.

00:28:15

Great spot, it's in like downtown Santa Fe.

00:28:17

Yeah.

00:28:18

We.

00:28:19

Went like.

00:28:19

Like the historic center of the historic area.

00:28:23

Yeah, we went right at the beginning of Kovid to try to go to Meow Wolf out there, which is coming to Denver and is freaking amazing so we missed that.

00:28:31

But at the same time we got to fall in love with this apothecary.

00:28:33

So kudos to them and will make them an unofficial sponsor.

00:28:37

Yeah, I'm I'm looking at their menu right now and I'm just making me hungry.

00:28:41

So anything else, kordys supplies that the listening audience, which I hope is vastly growing, should know.

00:28:48

I mean, I think we covered a lot of the the topics. Again, there's over 400 species of quarter steps, you know. So people, if they wanted to research this and go a little deeper, they can look into the different varieties and the Accessibility of those you know which ones can be reproduced at home.

00:29:08

You know something to follow up is you know what?

00:29:10

What about the consumption of fresh Cordyceps you know we didn't come across any research on that.

00:29:16

No, and there's a guy, a William Padya I believe is his name.

00:29:19

He's kind of the.

00:29:21

Expert on Cordyceps cultivation really well known guy in the area of mycology and foggy, he has a proven method for cultivation of Cordyceps.

00:29:30

There you go.

00:29:31

Yeah, William pidia.

00:29:32

William pidia

00:29:34

So something to look up if you're more curious about, you know its Genesis and you know how it's used, even more so than what we talked about.

00:29:41

Another just funny side note, the dried Cordyceps.

00:29:44

It looks like the the dried LogMeIn noodles you put in your egg drop soup.

00:29:48

Yeah, which are delicious.

00:29:49

So don't get them confused to be like drinking a doctor pepper, which turns out to be a nice tea.

00:29:54

That's not good.

00:29:55

Oh, that's that's that's big, right?

00:29:56

It's a terrible, horrible ruins.

00:29:57

Big difference.

00:29:58

Today, wifey, Jill.

00:30:00

Thank you so much.

00:30:01

That again was super educational.

00:30:03

An your voice is just intoxicating.

00:30:05

Ah well, thanks.

00:30:06

Yeah, do you mind hanging on?

00:30:07

I just want to talk about a mushroom that I think is pretty cool and it's not like a psychedelic mushroom.

00:30:13

And it's not a medicinal or culinary mushroom.

00:30:17

It kind of falls somewhere in between but.

00:30:19

Aesthetically and kind of the its appearance is pretty prominent in society, so the mushroom I want to talk about, it's probably the most famous visually.

00:30:29

People are most familiar with this look.

00:30:31

It's called the Amanita muscaria which also is known as fly agaric and I'm not sure why.

00:30:38

They have two terms, but M Anita Mascara is the scientific term and it's flieg.

00:30:42

Eric might be the more generic or more general term, but.

00:30:46

I mean, the more popularized term is probably the Mario Mushroom.

00:30:49

Well, it's the Mario mushroom.

00:30:50

Yes, the Mario mushroom.

00:30:52

It's the.

00:30:52

Or the mushroom that is like or painted and like fairies and, you know, Woodland creature.

00:31:00

You know backdrops.

00:31:02

It is that mushroom.

00:31:03

Yeah, the red top with the white dots.

00:31:03

I mean it's.

00:31:05

Red top white dots and it is actually the influence for Santa Claus as well.

00:31:11

Like the color scheme.

00:31:11

No, I did not know that.

00:31:12

Yeah, I found this article which people that are familiar with the mushroom probably know this, but there is a correlation between Santa and magic mushrooms which ties back to this amanita mascara.

00:31:25

So I think it was just.

00:31:26

That look and feel was playful.

00:31:29

You know the red and white, so there's more to be said there.

00:31:32

I don't want to give you all the Internet.

00:31:34

But it says here that ultimately you know the look and feel of Santa was derived from the flag mushroom.

00:31:41

All that so someone was on some magic mushrooms when they wrote that I'm from Iron.

00:31:45

Boom, and it's the most time honored Christmas classic character, so thank you mushrooms.

00:31:50

Yeah.

00:31:52

Has anybody said thank you mushrooms for bringing a Santa Claus?

00:31:55

I mean, probably not.

00:31:55

We're saying it now.

00:31:56

Right?

00:31:57

Mazal tov

00:31:58

You're the 1st.

00:32:00

I'll plant my flag so yeah, me and Musk area and so basically it is a mushroom that categorized I guess no like where it falls in the funky category, but it says you can't eat it, you can't consume it directly.

00:32:09

I don't.

00:32:16

You have to boil into some sort of tea and then it provides you like similar effects as being drunk.

00:32:23

So trying to decide.

00:32:24

Fix it says of course emanated Muskerry won't really make you fly the flag Eric term, but it can definitely inspire a good trip when taking the ibotenic acid decarboxylates into Musk. Amol MUSCIML is the active compound responsible for the psychedelic affected the mushroom.

00:32:45

But puppa it's different than other psychedelics.

00:32:48

An can be sometimes unpredictable so.

00:32:51

So this one is more predictable and less less unpredictable.

00:32:57

I don't know. It says in the side effects include sweating, involuntary movements known as ataxia, dilated pupils, nausea, loss of balance or coordination, drowsiness, and excessive salivation, which sound like all the same side effects from every pharmaceutical commercial we've ever seen on CNN, 8000 times a day. It says the effects generally become noticeable 30 to 90 minutes after taking and will last.

00:33:12

Oh gosh, yeah.

00:33:19

Between 4 to 10 hours.

00:33:21

So there's a process to taking it.

00:33:24

It's not going to give me like a growing experience mentale.

00:33:28

I don't think it's more of just like hey, this is fun kind of thing, but.

00:33:32

Yeah, and it looks like when you dry them it increases the potency.

00:33:38

OK, and that says right here, Amanita muscaria is generally taken after the mushrooms have been dried.

00:33:43

It allows the ibotenic acid to convert to musky mole, greatly increasing the potency.

00:33:48

So we were actually at the Telluride.

00:33:51

Market.

00:33:51

Farmers markens

00:33:52

Farmers market and the Telluride Mushroom Company shout out an official sponsor just as of now they had dried fly agaric parentheses, amanita muscaria for sale.

00:34:04

So I bought a couple ounces of it and on the back it says boil the mushrooms for 15 minutes strain.

00:34:10

Do not consume, take the water and then mix it into a dish.

00:34:14

So doesn't really say anything about what's going to happen to you, but.

00:34:20

Hey, might be worth an experiment.

00:34:23

Or may not me.

00:34:24

I'm pregnant.

00:34:24

That's correct, good.

00:34:25

That is the correct answer.

00:34:26

That was a trick question.

00:34:28

But yes, for the average people listening, I don't think it's a huge risk, but I don't see the real upside other than maybe like, ooh, I felt kind of weird and I can write that in my Journal.

00:34:37

So I would assume that that the compounds are going to be water soluble an in this type of mushroom, so the.

00:34:43

What does that mean?

00:34:44

Meaning that the compounds the the MU simul yeah the muzammal which contains the drug.

00:34:49

Muzammal yeah.

00:34:54

If you will, it's going to be water soluble.

00:34:55

Correct?

00:34:57

So when you boil these mushrooms when you rehydrate them, it's going to be in the liquid and not in the mushroom.

00:35:02

Gotcha.

00:35:03

You know, minuscule amounts will still reside in the mushroom, but.

00:35:07

Because it's water soluble, that means that the compound is going to follow the water interest, so drinking the water is probably what's going to get you high versus consuming the mushroom itself.

00:35:15

Yeah.

00:35:19

Fantastic, I could not have asked for a better explanation.

00:35:22
